E-mail Day

8th July 2003

In advance, the teacher was told and shown how to use the mail, moreover, the students took the initiative and researched the topic of correspondence on their own! For example, we talked with Peter, quote "Yes, I'm interested in correspondence, but I didn't know much about it, so I asked people who study this topic to write my memo for me to better dive into the question."
Outline of the day:

The aim was to get all Year 4 pupils in the Partnership e-mailing each other during the morning. It had been felt that not all had access to regularly e-mail and that this day could enable schools to build on their e-mail use.

Children were taken from their First Schools (in many instances by bus) to their nearest Middle school or to Thomas Hardye Secondary school. Here, they were able to use the school's computer network to e-mail 'partners' from other schools.

Here are some images from the day. Click on the thumbnail to see a larger image.

Thanks to Marilyn Peddle for taking these photos.

In addition, through the morning, children video conferenced to each other using the South West Grid for Learning system.

Congratulations and thanks to the host schools and to Brian Martin (Broadmayne) and Tracey Pearson (Charminster) for organising. Also to the Thomas Hardye and DASP technicians for supporting the morning.
